Doesn't last July 18, 2010 MOM of two My daughter got this toy for Christmas 2008 and loved it. We played with it maybe once a week and now it won't power up. We have tried new batteries, a DC-10 plug and cleaning the system, but nothing works; it has been dead for a month now. When I got on their website I looked up warranty information and LEAP FROG only guarantees the product for 3 months! We loved the toy but are extremely disappointed in the lack of quality and assurance from LF.
Worst value for Money- Not reliable July 14, 2010 Karthik I bought this product for my son but was disappointed when I saw the images in the screen. There are only very few inbuilt games and they do not look good. There are lot of better free games available in the internet. I bought 2 more cartridges but they were also horrible.
I just believed the brand value of Leaopfrog but I was wrong.
The mouse did not work properly after a week and I returned this product to bring back my peace.
Please check the images of games before you buy it. They look very bad.
Leapfrog Clickstart My first Computer June 29, 2010 N. Zepeda (New Orleans) I bought this product for my 4 year old daughter and she likes it a lot. I love that it is nicely built, above average for the price and strong enough for little ones to play with it all the time or even dropping it once in a while. My only problem is that the image is not really good especially if you own a flat screen, HD or any kind of the new TV's on the market. We have an old TV so we let her play on that one and the image is good. I think leapfrog should improve the quality of the image or adjust it to work perfectly with the new TV's. It is a great toy, my only dissapointment is the image quality.
quite entertaining May 16, 2010 S. Hasan (US) keeps my son busy and at the same time he is learning a lot too while playing
Problems with Mouse April 27, 2010 Samantha Taylor (Ann Arbor, MI) When this product is working, it clearly stimulates beneficial problem solving and word recognition for my son. However, it only works a very small percentage of the time, with continuous adult supervision. The main problem is the mouse:
1) The mouse wire is too stiff and not long enough, making it nearly impossible to hold straight up and down, even for adults, and therefore skewing the direction of the mouse.
2) The mouse pad is too small, requiring users to pick up the mouse at least 3 times to move from one side of the screen to the other.
3) The mouse is prone to false feedback, and the cursor often jumps from one side of the screen to the other without any input.
4) The mouse often fails to respond to input. Obviously it works better with newer batteries, but even when everything is brand new, it often malfunctions.
5) The device appears to be a battery hog. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse at home that are used for hours every day, for months on end, before the batteries need to be replaced. In order to function properly, the mouse/keyboard batteries must be replaced every four or five uses.
The sum of these problems means that the mouse is frustrating for adults to use, and virtually impossible for children. My son is able to enjoy periods of about 5 minutes where the fascination is more powerful than the frustration. However, the frustration quickly overwhelms and he declares the toy broken and turns it off. If I purchased this mouse for my computer, I would return it for poor quality.
This is clearly an instance where the software developers got a decent budget, and the hardware developers did not. Until leapfrog invests in a working mouse, the user interface will be worthless, and this product will be unprofitable and damaging to the brand.
I recommend waiting to purchase this product until the packaging says that the mouse has been improved. A recall for existing customers would also do well to maintain customer loyalty.
Sincerely,
Michael Taylor
