Product Description It's 2 toys in 1! As a sturdy, stable walker, the Step Start Walk 'n Ride toy helps babies learn to stand, take their first steps, and walk. As the grow older, it easily converts to a first ride-on toy! It has a locking mechanism that only parents can activate, so children can't change modes by themselves. Kids can explore the hands-on activities in both the walker and ride-on modes to see fascinating sights, hear silly sounds and touch interesting textures. Adult assembly required
Editorial Review When little wobblers are bored with walls and sofa edges, and there's no one to offer a hand, they can two-foot it safely across that open ocean of living-room floor with the help of the Step Start walker. This dual-purpose toy acts as stable support as they learn to walk, then lets them roll along when they want to ride. Once they are secure on their legs, the walker converts easily to a first ride-on toy. (Only adults can operate the wheel-lock mechanism.) A flexible antenna, spinning drum, clicking gear, and other sight-touch-sound features provide sit-down play fun. Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver. --Ava Natov
Amazon.com Review The Playskool Step Start Walk 'n Ride is a great stabilizer for your baby's first big moments of standing, stepping, and learning to walk. And once your infant/toddler has learned to walk, this versatile walking toy converts itself into a ride-on toy, helping your child learn to ride. Designed for children ages nine months to three-years old, the Step Start Walk 'n Ride also includes several hands-on activities with neat textures, sounds, and bright colors for plenty of sensorial fun. Push It, Ride It, Turn It, Spin It The Step Start Walk 'n Ride is designed to help your child with many activities, including standing, walking, and riding. The Walk 'n Ride also gives your child plenty of sit-down play, with sight-touch-sound features such as the gear shifter, lifting hood, spinning drum, and clicking dial. The walker/rider is also outfitted with bright, fun colors and friendly, smiling characters that are sure to please your infant or toddler while using. For parents, one of the best functions on this toy is its locking mechanism that changes the toy's mode from a walker to a ride-on toy. The lock cannot be undone by the child, and there is a distinct click that sounds when the lock is set in place. While your child is using the walker/rider, be sure to keep them away from sloped driveways and hills. Though the wheels are made out of very thick plastic, they are designed for the slower movements of a young child on a level, steady surface. A Great Walker and Rider for Beginners This walker/rider is excellent for its versatility of options for your waddler's different stages of development. And while your child is learning important stability skills, he or she can also play with and look at the fun sensorial gadgets that are attached from top to bottom in bright, fluorescent colors. The fact that the Step Start Walk 'n Ride is two toys in one makes it an economical choice and prolongs the amount of time your child will still be excited to use it and benefit from its activities. What's in the Box Body, four wheels, front handle, rear handle, handle retainer, domed lid, dial, roller, spinner (two pieces), antenna, gear shift, four plain #6 screws, and one #6 screw with attached washer.

Great Beginner Walker/Rider July 23, 2010 D. Pavkovich (Pittsburgh, PA) My daughter has loved this toy from when she was 5-6 months old. She would play with the knobs and everything on the toy when she couldn't ride/walk with it. Now she uses it to practice walking all around the house. She likes to sit on it but her feet don't reach the floor just yet for her to ride. I am sure she will take off on it once she can.
Cute walker July 7, 2010 safetymom This walker is very cute, easy to assemble, my child loves it, but it is much safer as a rider vs. a walker. It is very easy to convert to walker/sitter position but it easily seems to topple forward if a child is just learning to walk
Don't need it... July 6, 2010 Jessica Jones (Ohio) This was given to our son as a Christmas gift when he was 9 months old. He played with the little toys on the front a few times, but every time I tried to get him to walk with it he would get upset... the plastic wheels are just way too smooth and it moves too quickly. It would maybe be okay once they're walking a little but could use something to stabilize them, but at that point you really just don't need it anymore. It was completely useless for us, and I don't see how it would help a child learn to walk. If you're dead set on getting a walker, I'd go for a more expensive wooden one that will do it's job. But either way, you're child will learn to walk before you know it without the help of anything... so save the money for child-proofing everything once they get going!
Ok for what it is. July 3, 2010 M. Fletcher (Armidale, Australia) I wanted something simple and cheap for my very eager 11 month old son to practice walking with, and that's pretty much all this is.
We only have carpet and it rolls a little fast, but is manageable. I wouldn't recommend it for hard floors, though.
I was a little disappointed when we pulled it out of the box and started putting it together - it's pretty gaudy and not terribly sturdy. It also seems a little awkward to walk behind - the wheels are almost at the same width that my son steps at, so he bumps them sometimes with his feet.
I don't find the transition from walker to rider too difficult, although I did pinch my finger the first time I snapped it up to a walker, so be sure to watch where your (and baby's) hands are.
My son likes both modes, but I can't see him getting a whole lot of use out of it, simply because he'll soon outgrow it - he's not a particularly big baby, but he already seems too big for the rider.
All of that said, he giggles madly when he uses it and seems to really enjoy it. It's not an especially brilliant, solid walker, but it does the job for us.
Mr. Independent! June 21, 2010 K. REYNOLDS My 11-month-old grandson was a little skeptical when we first introduced him to this toy, he cried and wouldn't hold on. But after a few tries he is moving through the house like GANGBUSTERS!!!!
He likes playing with the interactive features on the front when he's not up walking around. It's the perfect height and the handle fits his little hands. It was very easy to assemble, took less than 5-minutes.
I was afraid it wouldn't be sturdy enough and the wheels would roll out from under him when he pushed but it's very stationary and supports him well. Now he's Mr. Independent and it has really helped him gain the confidence he needs to walk on his own.
